Another step in the road to publishing: Book Cover.

I got a lovely email from my editor with the artwork for the cover. After I fell over and picked myself up there were a few shrieks echoing through the house. Not that I'm sure where they came from.

It is amazing, and I can hardly wait to post it here. The artist is tweaking one tiny thing so I have to hold off, but it's perfect. How Angela Waters got the details so right from a one page description of the story blows me away.

The art request form for the story came to me September 11. Heres what the questions looked like:

• Hero Description (Whatever details will help the art department) –
Human form-
30 years old (in that ageless shifter way…)
Very long dark brown hair (waist length) worn either in braid or loose
Tribal tattoo on left bicep
Dark brown eyes- on the verge of being black
Dark skinned, possible Native American tone, but not necessarily featured as such.
6’ +
Very solid build
Any clothing would be backcountry gear, ie. No jeans.
Tshirts ok, otherwise REI or Cabela gear.

Wolf form-
Silver grey Canis Lupus (Alaskan Timberwolf)

• Heroine Description –
26 years old
Shoulder length medium brown hair
Brown eyes with golden flecks
Slightly tanned skin
5’9”
Slender but muscular. Solid. She’s not a dainty little thing.
I’d tell you her bra size but it’s never mentioned! Not big, not small.
Same for clothing as hero, back country only. No lace panties/etc,
Y-backed sports bra mentioned in story.

• Short Summary of Story –
Robyn (heroine) is deaf and uses ASL, lip reading and written notes to communicate. She is a competent backcountry adventurer and heads out for a week alone at Granite Lake Cabin, a remote setting 10 miles from the Alaskan highway….+seven more sentences. Very short summary!!

I’ve attached a couple of photos from the Granite lake/Kluane National Park area. This place exists and it’s beautiful!

So, if I'm not posting the cover yet, whats up there at the top of the blog entry? I'm so tickled to show off the banner the very talented Valerie Tibbs made for me! Val is a wonderful graphic artist and has been designing book covers as well as all the other little special things like banners. Once the book cover is official she'll replace the wolf in the right hand corner and we'll have Val's amazing work with Angela's.

I feel so fortunate to be able to be meeting such talented people as I continue the writing adventure.
