The Colemans of Heart Falls
The Colemans of Heart Falls are a set of stories that helped me learn to trust myself as a writer. I write tangled plots at times, but never really with the goal of being tangled. It’s just how my brain works.
For example, when I was writing an earlier book, ROCKY MOUNTAIN REBEL, and Karen Coleman showed up on the page, I never dreamed that she’d end up with a broken leg. (To her utter annoyance as it was an accident involving a horse, and she NEVER has problems with horses!)
That accident caused something very important to happen in REBEL. It was also the reason that in the next book, ROCKY MOUNTAIN FREEDOM, Karen asked her cousin Travis to go somewhere that affected his life greatly. Small bits of story for Karen showed up in the background during FREEDOM, but I didn’t know the whole of it until A RANCHER’S HEART where Karen confessed to her sisters that she’d had her heart broken…
Writer Me: what? When?? Ack!!!
Three past books and Writer Viv stared at the page wondering what was going on! Lol.
In the end my brain was nice enough to give up the story that became THE COWGIRL’S SECRET LOVE, with bits of the past finally explained, and a wonderful mending of that broken heart for Karen.
I guess if you really wanted Karen’s whole story, you could hop back and read those books in order: Rocky Mountain Rebel, Rocky Mountain Freedom, A Rancher’s Heart, The Cowgirl’s Secret Love.
Or you could just start with The Cowgirl’s Forever Love and follow the HEAs of the Coleman sisters in the here and now through the three books of the series.
Because HEAs are good whether they’re the whole story or just the sweet, final course.
