Welcome! Today’s theme is secondary characters, and I decided to show you something cool. One of the fun things about writing a series is that a secondary character in one book can become the main character in the next! All these excerpts are from one of the Granite Lake Wolves, three books available, the first print anthology coming in August and the fourth ebook available in October.
Wolf Signs: Robyn & Keil, with a side of Tad.
“Robyn, there’s something…” Tad hesitated, looking everywhere around the room except at her. He opened and closed his mouth a couple of times before shaking his head. “Never mind.”
Robyn gave a heavy sigh. “Not again, Tad. You do this at least once a year. Whatever deep, dark secret you have I wish you’d spit it out. Or drop it and not get me curious. Are you gay?”
Tad sat back on his heels, his jaw dropping open. “Robyn!”
“Well, you seem to turn twenty shades of red every time you start this, I thought maybe it had to do with sex. I don’t care if you are gay, you know. There’s this great guy down at the bakery—”
“Thanks, but I’m not gay. It’s nothing. Do you have your bear spray?”
Wolf Flight: Tad and Missy, with a side of Erik
“How can you not remember?” Erik asked. “Don’t you feel like you’ve got to listen when Keil talks? Or your previous Alpha in Whitehorse?”
Tad shrugged. “I guess. Well, sometimes. Sometimes I just feel annoyed.”
“Annoyed?” Erik sounded strange, like he had swallowed something the wrong way.
Tad flicked a glance up at him. “Annoyed or even pissed off. Usually when I think it’s a thing stupid for them to ask. I don’t think Keil’s ordered me to do anything yet, so I’m not sure, but my Alpha in Whitehorse, heck, I ignored him all the time.”
Erik was no longer at his side and Tad turned back to look at the man who was several paces behind making the weirdest face. This night was turning truly bizarre. “What?” Tad watched as the Beta walked a slow circle around him, sniffing the air. “Sod off—I hate it when people do that.” Tad forced him away. Not an easy task since Erik was built like a brick shithouse with reinforced metal corners.
Erik shook his head slowly. “Keil’s gonna blow a gasket.”
“Tad’s going to pitch a fit if he doesn’t get to go home soon. Stop with the wolfy mumbo jumbo and let’s go see the Big Cheese.” Tad stormed into the hall, Erik trailing behind him chuckling.
Wolf Games: Erik & Maggie, with a side of TJ
He turned to make sure TJ had his lifejacket on properly. The boy was still swearing colourfully, with few repetitions.
“Does your brother know you’re this talented with words?”
TJ snorted. “Who do you think I learned them from? Well, him and Robyn. She’s awful good at cussing in sign language.”
“I’m going to fuck this up. I just know it. I’m going to cause some major catastrophe.”
TJ looked at him like he’d grown a third head. “Because I’m me. You know I can’t walk twenty feet without landing on my face.”
