Yes, it’s a retelling of the Beauty and the Beast fable.
Eve has added some nice twists to the old story and the familiar tale lends itself well to the romance setting with a blackmail twist. Lila is a great ‘Beauty’; she’s brave and smart and willing to admit to her sexual attraction to Hunter.
The usual plot misunderstandings between the characters are handled in such a wonderful manner— it’s what makes this rendering of the story believable. She doesn’t care that he’s scarred, but she does react negatively to him for a very good reason. Coming to the point that they can share with honesty is what lets us see their growth. Sensual and hot interactions are a part of the story, not simply thrown in, making it a fun read.
I think it is nice to be able to enjoy a modern take on an old tale.
