I was trying to do an update once a month. Looks like that hasn't happened for a while, so today's the day. There is a whole lot going on, and still more to look forward to, and I'm thrilled by it all. I'm feeling very positive about what's happening and the things I've got planned. Now to put in the time and make everything happen.
- Whirlpool : edits are done and I'm just waiting for approval to show you the amazing cover.
- Falling, Freestyle : almost finished writing (this week I hope, maybe even today)
- Faetful : Waiting to see the cover and get a release date
- Fired Up : edits are done and I'm just waiting for a release date
- Begun work on Turn It Up
Over the next month I'll be busy with new things like:
- Outlining (HA!) the 2nd and 3rd books in Pacific Passion series
- Edits on Wolf Tracks
- Getting Turn It Up done
- Starting to plan some promo for the release of Under the Northern Lights, my first print book!
- Getting ready for Whirlpool's release in August
Part of the reason I need to get going on promo early is because I've signed up to attend the Romance Writers of America conference happening in late July in Orlando. I'll be returning from the RWA event the day Under the Northern Lights releases.
Which is kinda cool in itself, I think.
I haven't put them up on the coming soon page (which I will have a question about in a minute) but there are two more print books going to be releasing in 2011. The second anthology for the Wolfies-Under the Midnight Sun, and an anthology of the two Forces of Nature. Breaking Waves should be June-ish, and the wolfies in the summer again. I know, a long way off, but I still thought I should mention them.
So a question- any suggestions or tweaks for my website? I've tried to keep things up to date and easy to manoeuver, but with 12 releases out now and a few more on the coming soon page, I wondered what you thought. Should the coming soon be limited to just the next couple of releases? Then I could add the blurbs etc right to the page. What about the home page? A short update there and just the coming soon and most recent release?
I was also thinking of tweaking the books page–with 12 books now I thought it might be better to have smaller pictures so you can see them all at once. I think most of my problems are from having so many books close together, but I'd liike to make sure touring my site is easy for you all. Oh, and I added a couple of ‘inspirational' items to the Tidal Wave and Whirlpool pages, if you want to take a peek.
And I'm obviously feeling chatty!

Hey Vivian,
All I can say is wow! Was very excited to see Turn It Up 🙂
As far as your question goes, here’s my preferences when visiting an author’s website.
-On the home page I like to see the newest release and a greeting that lets me know what’s going on and point me in interesting directions. Like “I have a new contest, check out my blog…”
Or “I have lots going on, check out my Coming Soon”
-Books page….smaller covers would be fine as long as you can still see the details, but what I don’t like is when the cover appears more than once (ebook and print) I much prefer to have to have text or something telling that it is available in ebook and print. I do like them separated by genre and I like series books to be grouped together and clearly labeled as book #1 in…
-Coming Soon page. I like to know what is in the works. I don’t know if it necessary to post a blank title for each. Maybe only the ones you have covers and excerpts for then possibly have a sort of calendar list of everything else coming by date if possible, then as you get more info feature it with the picture, blurb and excerpt
For the most part I love your site and blog. But keeping up with everything takes a lot of work, but I think it will be worth it since readers will be able to find what they want, without necessarily wading through duplicates, or things to far out in the future (not that we don’t love what we have to look forward to)
Have a good one!
Thanks for all the awesome feedback- I think a few things, like the coming soon page, are an area I need to simplify because I’m more established. When I had one book out, having another on the coming soon page was HUGE, even if it didn’t have a cover.
I’m pretty consistent now with releases, so I can certainly see changing that.
Wow- alot of things coming up, very exciting to see.
As to what I like on an author’s website – I have to agree with Booklover in the comments above.
I mostly look for 2 things on any author’s website and those are:
1. The site is easy to navigate- I don’t have to click 5 million times to get where I want.
2. The site is well organized- I hate to find the coming soon pages full of books that are already released and find none of the coming soon books there.
I also like to be able to follow an author’s news or blogs and you have both of those features covered so that’s good.
Thanks Maria!
One thing I was thinking about (if I can figure out the computer talk) is to have the series books with at least their blurbs on a common page and then click off to go to the actual excerpts.
And RSS is sweet, isn’t it? Love to be able to check my email and get the blogs I follow.
I cannot wait to see what you come up with. Do not make the book covers too small we still have to be able to see the steamy covers. 😉
OOhhh, good point! I’ve seen a few authors that the covers are teeny tiny and it makes me sad! Especially when the covers are as nice as you’ve gotten.
I love my cover artists!
Hi Vivian. I can’t think of anything the others people haven’t already said. Except when people put music on their pages that really slows down my computer. Otherwise what I have seen of your site is really nice.
Thanks Sue!
And music? GASP, I hit back off sites with music so fast…after years of having dialup connections I’m still scared of them freezing me up!
