12 Days of Giving #6

Make sure you've added your name in the FIRST of the 12 Days of Giving posts.

Okay, now that everyone is back; this is another challenge that will take time, but not much money.

Give a letter of encouragement.

Some people are very very good at this. It doesn't have to be long, like pages and pages, but even a few lines can make a huge difference in a person's day. Who can you write to? Your parents/ children/ siblings/ friends/ relatives/ teachers/ co-workers/postal carrier/ bank teller/ pastor/ someone in the military service/ and many more.

One year when money was tight, my hubby and I exchanged letters as Christmas gifts. That's all. A letter. He wrote how much he appreciated me and some of the highlights he saw in our past year. Some of the things he was looking forward to in the coming year. I cried when I read his note, and it meant more to me than any store bought goodie could ever have. I still have that letter…

When I was in my twenties, my husband and I moved from Nova Scotia to Alberta for a couple of years. We didn’t know anyone and I was very, very homesick. My youngest brother was 8 or 9 years old at the time ( He’s now 23! ) and he used to write me a letter every week telling me about school, and his friends, and our family pets-all from a little boy’s perspective. Those letters made me laugh and laugh, and it really made my day when I found one in the mailbox. I still have them tucked away, and dig them out when I need a chuckle 🙂

My grandmother always loved the little notes I sent her… I enjoy writing little notes on cards for my friends… just little feel good cards and messages… 😀

I totally forgot my husband then boyfriend used to do that. We would leave each other notes or cards where we could find them. Ex. In the glove department in the car, visor in the car, etc. It’s a nice way to remember what we used to do. I will have to keep that in mind for the future. It will be sweet.

I have sent letters to my parents when I was younger. But really, the most expressive writings I did was when I was in my late teens/early twenties, writing special poems (that pretty much suck, lol) to special people, especially my nieces & nephews when they were born. I also wrote one for my grandparents’ 50th Anniversary that they loved.

I already have the book but I read a book called How Full Is Your Bucket. It’s all about encouraging others and not being negative. I really liked it. I wrote several notes of encouragement to my fellow teammates and some of them cried just at the small gesture. 🙂

Last year I made sure my daughter got a letter from Santa. It was beautiful to watch her reaction. I have a wonderful video that she will have when she is older.
