Day three when I discuss discovering the perfect way to blow my book budget.
Backlists.
You know what I'm talking about–once I found a new author I enjoyed I worked my way through their entire backlist. And damn, some authors are prolific! Like Lora Leigh–I started with a print copy of Tanner's Scheme (Breeds), hopped back into ebooks and then switched to her contemporary .
Today's prize is a print copy of Dangerous Games.
IT’S NOT WHETHER YOU WIN OR LOSE.
Navy SEAL Clint “Iceman” McIntire didn’t earn his nickname by being a coward. Or a quitter. Having crushed an infamous drug cartel in Colombia, Clint was nothing short of an American hero. Now he’s home, on a much needed leave, but instead of some R&R, he finds himself neck-deep in trouble with his best friend’s little sister, Morganna Chavez, the only woman who has the power to bring him to his knees. . .
IT’S HOW YOU PLAY….
Morganna has been secretly working with the DEA to uncover a thriving date-rape-drug, which leads her to a shadowy faction that is more deadly than anything her team has ever encountered. Now it’s up to Clint to keep this beautiful, determined agent out of harm’s way, even while the passion between them threatens to consume them. Soon Clint’s greatest mission will be not just keeping Morganna safe, but getting her into his arms and never letting go.

If you need the rules, they are here. To enter today, tell me if you've ever snarfed up an author's entire backlist. Please–I can't be the only one!!

Oh heavens, yes! There are many authors I inhale in 3 or 4 days. There was the entire Mallory clan by Johanna Lindsey, Lisa Kleypas, and Mary Balogh.
Okay, I’ve got to ask since I’ve never read Kleypas and I’ve heard a lot about her lately. Best book to start with?
Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas is a great book to start with if you like historicals. If contemporary, start with Sugar Daddy.
I love Lora’s Breed, Nauti and a few other of her series I’ve only found one or two of her books that didn’t drag me in from page one but by the time I was done with them I loved them. I also love Jaid Black, Jayne Ann Krentz, Linda Howard, Kresley Cole, Christine Warren, Lori Foster, Angela Knight and Gena Showalter. I have quite a few more authors that are auto buys for me and I’m always dying for their new books to come out. The only reason that I haven’t read everything that they’ve all written is because you can’t get some of the books anymore. When I started reading Christine Feehan I picked up 2 of her books and the next time I went to the bookstore I got all of series that they had.
I think the closest I’ve come to buying all of a series by an author is when my mom and I went and bought almost all of Michele Bardsley’s Broken Hearts vampire series.
I’ll answer the Lisa Kleypas question with the Hathaways series which starts with Mine till Midnight and concludes with numbers 4 and 5 in May and June. That is my favorite way to get an author….start a series by them almost at the end so that I can enjoy with no delayed gratification! There are too many series I have to wait for the next book!
I inhaled Lauren Dane, Maya Banks, and Elizabeth Hoyt once I read one book by them. I love backlists.
Laurell K. Hamilton – I started reading her when book 5 of Anita came out and read from the start first.
J.D. Robb – I started reading her when book 7 came out and had to read the entire backlist first!
This was a great book! Please don’t enter me as I own it 😀
I started to read LKH’s Anita Blake series when book 18 was being published so I had a huge backlist to work thru, as soon as I finished that I then went thru her Meredith Gentry files. I also started to read the Sookie Stackhouse series when the 7th book was getting printed so I had that series to go thru. I started reading Lora Leigh’s breed series when Tanner’s Scheme came out too but I actually went back to start from the beginning and then read up thru the rest of the books.
There are still soooo many books out there that I have not gotten my hands on… parts of series that I do not have… I am slowly but surely getting them!
Same thing happened to me with Lora Leigh’s Breeds. Fictionwise had a 100% micropay on all Lora Leigh books so I now have them in paper and e-book. Ilike her Seals and Elite Ops, too. I have the nauti books, but haven’t read them yet. The Bound books are not my favorite.
Of course I get them all!!! I’ve done this with too many authors to name.
Oh, yeah! Basically, every time I discover a new author.
yes I do if I love an author i want to read EVERYTHING they have written its like i really have to read more. I love when i find an author that makes me soo excited i scrounge for the rest of their works
I have all of Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake and Merry Gentry books, all of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books by JR Ward, all of Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series, all of Rachel Vincent’s Faythe Hunter books, and All of Mari Carr, TA Chase and Jess Dee’s books. Oh yeah and I have all of the books by someone named Vivian Arend too!!!
Not that I’m tagging you for special attention or anything, but, damn, you make me smile!
🙂
Not the entire lists, yet, but working on collecting: Sandra Brown, Susan Kay Law, Linda Broday and Jill Marie Landis (to name a few).
I do that quite frequently. I did it with Sherrilyn Kenyon, Jo Beverly, Mary Jo Putney, and many others.
I love series. So much so that if I find an author, such as J.D. Robb, I have to start at the begining. Love Laurell K. Hamilton, Kay Hooper, Charlain Harris, etc…….
I would have to say the first one was Lori Foster. I went through her books like wildfire. This was about 2-3 years ago when I started getting into Romance. I couldn’t get enough. Good thing she has about a million books out right!
Now if I find an author I like I check out the site and gobble them all up…. it is an addiction.
Brande
yes, definitely. and i love series, to my pocketbook’s dismay. I did this with JD Robb’s books, Christine Warren, Maya Banks, and Christine Feehan.
I am currently working on Lauren Dane, Lorelei James and Anne Bishop’s back list
Oh, you will be happy to come back fo the next couple of days then!!
<3 Lauren and Lorelei!
I have definitely gobbled up more than one author’s entire backlist after reading one of their books. I did it for Nora Roberts a few years ago and have done it for Shelly Laurenston and Moira Rogers more recently. I’ve also done it with non-romance authors like James Rollins and Robert Ludlum.
yes i have i went and got all of Christine Feehans books after i read the first one and a few others.love a good author that makes you want all there books.
sasluvbooks(at)yahoo(dot)com
I did the same thing when I first read Lora Leigh’s Breed series. I have done it with Lilith Saintcrow recently and many others over the years.
In the earlier days of my romance reading, I had to snarf up Nora Roberts Irish trilogy, Circle trilogy, Donovan legacy, and Born In. I even read all of Catherine Coulter’s Medievel stories. I went crazy over Lora Leigh’s Nauti series, though.
How appropriate that the prize is one of Lora Leigh’s books, because that is just what I did for this author. I also went through all of Maya Bank’s backlist too!
I have devoured some backlists, LKH’s Anita Blake and Gentry series (though I’ve stopped reading both since I wasn’t happy were the series was going). Keri Arthur’s series – I read her Riley Jensen series and then promptly bought a couple of her other series on ebook and devoured them too. Moira Rogers – started with Crux and then branched out into Red Rock and Last Call series. All this book reading is bad for sleeping 😉
You need not worry yourself any longer, Vivian.
I have all of Devyn Quinn’s. Some I’ve reviewed , others I’ve actually bought in either Kindle format or paperback format from an actual book seller. When the Keeper of Eternity kept me up all night, I knew I had to make it my life’s mission to get all her books. I have at least 12 Nora Robert novels. Will I get them all one day? Not likely. She has so many, it’ll take the rest of my days to keep up, lol.
I have all of Sandra Hill. Have almost all Sharon Sala. The only problem is running at of room. I hate when have all of the books in a series but one and you can’t find it.
Don’t enter me for the drawing as I already have the book. My favourite series is Nina Bangs’ MacKenzie vampires and I bought most of her backlist.
yes i have for a few authors Linda Howard and Nora Roberts i did it for king too now im trying with ll my fav authors because when you read an awesome author u just haveto read more
You aren’t alone. I’ve had to do it w/ several authors. Lora Leigh (but not the breeds, I just don’t like them), Jim Butcher, Laurell K. Hamilton, just to name a few….
After I discovered Josh Lanyon, I couldn’t buy his backlist fast enough!
The first author I collected was Sandra Brown and now the list just goes on.
I am reading Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series and loving it. Also Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changlening series was amzing
Yes, I have. I did it when I discovered Heather Graham and Christine Feehan.
I’m a Lora Leigh fan also and after reading 1 of her EC breed books, I went looking for them and bought them all (this was before she changed publishers). Then I went after her other books and even bid extra $ on Ebay for her OOP book Ties That Bind…..I simply had to have them all!!!
I did the same thing with Sarah McCarty and her Promise Series….bought 1 and had to have all of them….but my favs are still the EC books!!!
Now I keep an old fashioned address book in my purse…except instead of addresses, I use it for authors names/books I want or need to complete a series. It’s especially handy for OOP older books at garage sales/used book stores, etc.
Oh yeah! My girlfriend and I both got hooked on Sherrlyn Kenyon and purchaed the entire dark under series along with her titles under Kinsley MacGregor!
Oh my goodness, I’ve devoured Charlaine Harris’ Sookie books, the Morganville Vampires, Sherrlyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters, I got up to about book 10 of the Breeds and had to take a breather, LOL! Kim Harrison, Karen Marie Moning – the Fever Series then her Highlanders (so sexy)!
Yes, I have. Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters, Lynn Viehl’s Darkyn, Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling, and many more. 🙂
yes i have lora leigh nauti series and most of the breed series that was available i also have this book too
OMG YES!!!! JD Robb is the first series that I had to read from beginning to end, no stopping!
I’ve read all of Christine Feehan’s backlist. Major fan alert 🙂
