It's a very popular trope right now. I've even had itching fingers to dive in and join the adventure. One of the fun parts of witches is that it can mean a very wide variety of stories.
But you know me–nothing too scary is allowed, so most of the books I read and re-read in this trope are witches light: bad things happen, but nothing too gruesome. Or at least not on the page.
Mostly these are stories about people who are simply a little “more” at times. They can light fires at the snap of a finger. Or their baking always turns out perfect. Or they know instinctively which direction to turn to find a parking spot. (I want that magical ability!)
If you were a witch, what kind of ability would you want? Talk about that with your friends, too. Let me know, and in the meantime, here are a few different authors to dive into witches with.
Happy reading!

Witching for Grace by Deanna Chase
At the age of forty-five with the help of her coven, Grace is ready to pick up the pieces and move on. But her only job prospect is at the rival real estate office, and it’s only for a trial run. She’ll need to prove that she can sell the haunted properties of Premonition Pointe before she’s hired permanently.
Witch Forgotten by V. Vaughn
When Corinne Knight wakes up with amnesia, she doesn’t know how to use the magic her family claims she has. Considering she and her twin run a magical baked goods business, the fact that she can’t remember how to spell the recipes is bothersome. But that’s not her biggest frustration; her attraction to Noah Wilson is. Because even though he seems open to a relationship, Corinne senses something in their past has kept them apart, and she’s afraid it’s so big she’ll regret letting him into her heart again.

Black Hat, White Witch by Hailey Edwards
Remember that old line about how the only way out of the organization is in a pine box?
Well, Rue Hollis spent ten years thinking she had escaped the Black Hat Bureau, no coffin required.
Then her former partner had to go and shatter the illusion by showing up on her doorstep with grim tidings. As much as Rue wants to kick him to the curb, she agrees to hear him out for old times’ sake, and what he says chills her to the bone.
Fugitive of Magic by Lindsey Hall
To the world, I'm a just a Conjurer. To my closest friends, I'm a FireSoul–a dangerous Magica with forbidden powers and a dragon's soul. The downside? If anyone discovers what I am, I'm dead. So I lay low, kicking butt with my weapons, not my magic.
