Do you use your local library?

There's something magical about libraries. From the time I was young, and no matter where I've lived, I have good memories wrapped up with our local library.

(I hope if YOU have a favourite story about your library, you'll share it with me. I'd love to hear how the magic of these special places has changed your world.)

When I was little we'd go as a family once a week, the oversized doors opening into a castle-like hall. Inside, it was hushed and cool, and I'd slip off to the children's section to select a pile of new favourites for the week. That first library had special reading tables in the children's section. They held the books nearly upright so a group could all read the same book at the same time–everyone leaning in, eager to see the pictures.

Libraries during school were where we gathered not just to find books and do homework, but to giggle with friends, and—dare I say it?—sneak a kiss or two with a boyfriend. (Shhh, don't tell my husband!)

And when I became the mom, I'd tote a huge basket around to carry all the books making the trip back to our house. Bookmobiles, summer reading programs–every time we moved one of the first places we'd check out would be the new library, and the kids would run to see if the new place had their favourites.

What do I think about libraries? They're a part of my world that's very important. No matter how tight the budget, because of libraries there were always books, and later movies, and DVDs. Stories to read out loud, stories to read silently.

While I love having stories on my ereader, the local library still owns a place in my heart. It's entertainment, and so much more, and if that's where you pick up your reading material, I'm glad. I try my best to make sure all my books can be available through library services, but with budgets being tight, not all libraries carry all my works.

Sometimes there's interlibrary loans–or other options. But if you did want to get my books into your local library, we've gathered some information to help you.
