The creation of a book involves a community of people mostly acting independently, but coordinated toward one goal. The final moments of the journey are a (usually) solitary action: reading a story and taking it in and experiencing the highs and lows is an act we do on our own. And then we hurry to talk about it the book with all our book-loving friends and once again, it's a community event, lol.
I am so fortunate to have an amazing community helping me in many, many ways.
There's Nicole—my friend and assistant. She keeps the wheels of publishing turning. She's also a wonderful person, and I was delighted to be able to get together with her this year to not only plan business mischief, but to simply enjoy each other's company. You know someone is a good friend when they'll let you throw axes in their presence!
Once I write a book, I have three wonderful people who help find the holes and the missing words. (To this day, I do not understand why after reading a project 50 times, I still can't see the missing words in a sentence.) Angie, Manu, and Linda are my eagle-eyed helpers, and I'm so pleased they fit themselves in around my often loosey-goosey schedule.
This year's amazing Timberwolf Lodge series covers, and more, were designed by Frauke at Croco Designs. I also used Damonza for the cowboy titles. Audio books continue to be narrated by the talented Tanya Eby/Tatiana Sokolov.
I did get a chance to see writing friends in person, and continued to visit with others via Zoom and chat rooms.
Filling the well with moments of shared encouragement is vital to keeping this adventure fun.
