This is a brand new challenge. Ready? This holiday season,
Give your body a break.
Yes, yes I did go there. Because it's not only the season of potlucks, office parties, family dinners and too much chocolate—and yes, there is such a thing as TOO much chocolate— it's the season of full days with all kinds of have to do NOW activities.
Maybe I'm the only one, but it seems often my exercising gets dropped off the urgent list and my healthy eating habits also get dropped. Double whammy- ick.
But it's not possible to do it all, so find at least one thing you WILL and WON'T do this season. Like: I WILL make sure I at least get some walking in every day. If that means parking at the far end of the shopping mall, hey, at least you've added a few steps to the day. Or how about: I WON'T have more than one treat per day.
Going cold turkey isn't the idea. Have some fun, but come post-holidays, I know I'm always happier if I've not thrown my hands in the air and simply gone hog wild.
You have any specific WILL and WON'T you want to share? Leave a comment and make a commitment! I've got a lovely local made soap, and a scrub thingy to go with it, as a gift for one commenter today.

I’m going to take at least one 10 kilometer long walk, but hope to cram in some more walks as well (although those will be a bit shorter).
I love walks. And for me they are more likely to happen than a run, but they are just as heathy. Yeah you!
I have been running out alot looking for things and eating out… definitely backing off of fast food and junk once the holidays are over…
I am going to refrain from baking cookies and making fudge so that I don’t have those around to tempt me to overindulge.
I will start walking more regularly and I won’t drink as many soft drinks.
Soft drinks are such easy/calorie adders, aren’t they?
Soft drinks are such easy/calorie adders, aren’t they? I try to drink lots of water, but I still love my Pepsi!
I haven’t given up soda, but I don’t a can a day as I used to. Now I drink it when I out for lunch or dinner.
I won’t give up exercise this holiday season. I have been going through physical therapy and the exercise is essential to bring the therapy to an end. I will make time to kick back and chill out. I used to run until I collapsed but now I can see that doesn’t make any sense!
I’d started doing the treadmill at least 30 minutes a day, and then stopped recently– it’s odd you posted about this today because I was just thinking I NEED to keep it up for my health. Now, as far as the “won’t”. Hmmm….I always over do the mixed nuts at my inlaws– so what if I promise to NOT eat more than one handful per day. That doesn’t seem too bad– I can’t ignore them completely!
I won’t bite off more than I can chew with the holiday baking this year.
Everyone in my family has requests for me to make. Sometimes they’ve called Christmas Eve. This year I’ve made a small list of what I’m making and I’m sticking to it.
I know this is going to be opposite from the rest of the comments. I will let me kids try to enjoy there treats that come from this time of year. Not too much but a little more than they normally get. Coming from a sugar free home.
I will continue on my walking regimen every day, and I won’t overeat at the holiday parties.
I won’t skip my trip to the gym…no matter how tempting the thought of sleeping in is…..
I like the idea of only eating one sweet a day. That’s a good way to limit myself from all those tempting cookies. As for exercise, luckily, I’m pretty disciplined on that and always try to get my workouts in.
I will continue to eat mass amounts of sugar every day (hey it’s how I make it through my days!) 🙂 but I Will also try to find more time to do at least a little physical activity. I won’t worry about finding the closest spot to the store I will park and walk. lol
