Okay, enough whining, I'm going to go back to celebrating. Finished galleys off my to-so list.
Galleys are the final chance I get to look over the story before it goes to print. I was doing the galleys for Under the Northern Lights, the anthology of Wolf Signs and Wolf Flight that will be out in August. I had a blast re-reading and examining every word. Two things struck me.
1. My editor at Samhain, Anne Scott, is amazing. Yes, there were a number of things I had to fix in Wolf Signs, totally not her fault, but beginner writer things that I wanted to tweak. By the time we did Wolf Flight together, six months later, there were less than a dozen fixes in the whole book. A couple of commas in the wrong spot, one abbreviation that got through without being fixed… I'm so impressed AND grateful to have Anne on my side.
2. There are parts of the book I haven't read for ages! I've got particular excerpts I post on a regular bisis, but it was actually fun to have to read the whole book. So I'm going to post a little tidbit, and then be off to do another couple things. WOOHOO!!

Keil’s hands slid possessively over her. “Since it’s our last night here I vote we take advantage of it. Dinner was great but I want my dessert.”
He opened up her shirt and proceeded to bury his head in her breasts, rubbing back and forth over her torso like he was painting himself with her scent.
“You can’t tell, but you smell absolutely amazing, Robyn. It’s something to do with being recently triggered as well as being my mate, but are your pheromones off the chart right now.” He licked a long slow line up from between her breasts until he reached her lips and proceeded to tease the corners of her mouth with gentle nips and kisses.
“TJ said it could be a problem with the pack. That all the guys would be attracted to me.”
Keil pulled back and stared at her for a second. “He’s right, I never thought about that. I mean, you’re marked as mine, and your scent is clearly our scent, but as a full-blood until after your first full moon, you’re sending off killer hormones.”
He traced a finger down her body, circling the globes of her breasts as he considered. “I’ll be careful who I introduce you to. Only mated couples and females until after the weekend. You’re too beautiful. I’d be fighting everyone for you otherwise.”
“You wolves seem to like fighting.”
“It passes the time and keeps us warm. It’s cold in Alaska.”
Robyn grabbed his hand from where it teased her and pushed it farther down her body until his strong fingers cupped her mound. She pressed her hips upward gently, encouraging him to explore. “It’s cold up here in the Yukon too, but I know of lots of other ways to stay warm. Fireplaces, hot tubs…”
“…saunas, beds. I’m looking forward to trying them all with you.” Keil spread his fingers over her belly and finally lowered his head to her breast. His tongue flicked to moisten the tip of her nipple. Her body responded and a tight peak formed. Keil’s contented smile warmed her heart. He didn’t simply go through the motions. He seemed to enjoy touching her, making her feel wonderful.
He blew a stream of cool air over her breast, sending a shot of pleasure down to her womb. Keil’s mouth lowered and he suckled the erect tip into his mouth, tugging sharply until on the edge of pain. He followed with a gentle lap. A delicate nip with his teeth. The alternating tugs and soft caresses built up the pressure burning deep in her core. She reached her hands to massage over his shoulders, holding him close to her body.
Suddenly she needed more. She wanted to touch him as well, make him feel as good as he made her feel. He’d been such a tender lover over the past days, but he’d been controlling as well, never letting her take charge.
“Keil…oh damn that feels good. I want you to roll over. Please?”
She felt his chuckle against her breast. “You going somewhere, little bird?” His mouth continued to feast on her as he pulled her into his arms and flipped them over, finishing with her nestled on top of him.
He was still suckling.
Robyn tucked up her legs to straddle Keil’s strong body, giving her some leverage. She slowly lifted her torso away from his caresses. The expression of loss on his face made her smile.
“It’s okay, wolfman, I’m not going anywhere but down.”
His puzzled expression faded as heat flared in Keil’s eyes. Robyn winked and started the exploring she wanted to do.
