He’s the golden boy with a secret past

When Nicole Adams abruptly cancels their secret fling, Troy Thompson is stunned. The sex between them is sizzling, but she’s ready to move on—find a reliable guy, settle down, pop out a few babies. The thought of Nic in another man’s arms is maddening. And while her agenda freaks him out, Troy knows there’s no one in town nearly good enough for her. No one, that is, except him.

She’s his redemption and his future

Nicole doesn’t regret her sexual romp with Troy, but when he insists on taking the next step with her—marriage and parenthood—she figures he’s out of his goddamned mind. Troy? Husband and daddy material? Oh, he’s sexy beyond belief, with the ability to melt her panties with a single command, but the man’s not known for being responsible. Trying for forever with Mr. Frivolous? Everyone thinks it’s a fool’s game.

Everyone except Troy, who’s determined to make Nicole see the real him under the shiny exterior.

Excerpt:

He’d brought her across the wide-open room with the hardwood floor to where an old boom box sat on the counter, a more modern docking station beside it. Troy plugged his phone into the power, hit the playlist he’d prepped that afternoon, and as slow music swirled around them, he caught her in his arms and pulled her against him.

The evening had worked out well, at least relatively. But that sense of frustration remained that he knew he’d have to deal with at some point.

Why was someone like Chase an acceptable prospect for Nic, when he wasn’t?

It was hard to stay annoyed, though, with Nic moving against him, her fingers threaded into the hair at the back of his head. A gentle hum escaped her lips as she accompanied the music.

They were more than comfortable together, passion rising as her breasts rubbed his chest. Troy stepped one leg between hers as he pressed a hand against her lower back, keeping their bodies in full contact.

She offered her approval. “It’s not our first date anymore.”

“Technically, it is,” he teased.

Nic dropped her forehead against his chest then sighed dramatically. “Mean and nasty, that’s what you are, Troy Thompson.”

“Never,” he swore. He tapped his fingers under her chin and tilted her head back until he could get at her lips, brushing their mouths together softly before kissing her.

The country music playing in the background was accompanied by the soft shuffle of their feet over the wooden boards as they kept dancing while they kissed. Languid and lazy at first, Troy tasted her, soaked the flavour and feel of her into his very system.

As always, that faint flutter of attraction he constantly felt around her roared up to full-out desire between one breath and the next. His body hardened, and he pulled back to look into her eyes.

Deep-green pools of desire reflected back at him.

He’s her rock in the midst of the storm

When Maggie Ward’s world is shattered by sudden tragedy, the only person who makes her days bearable is Clay Thompson. Protective and caring, he’s everything she could ask for in a friend. But when Maggie starts longing for more than friendship, it’ll take a little heated seduction to convince this stubborn mechanic she’s ready to start living again.

She’s his heart, whether he knows it or not

Tough guy Clay is good at taking care of others. It’s what he does. But when the one woman he’s always desired needs him to take care of her, he’s faced with a new challenge. Suddenly it’s not just responsibility driving him, but a wild desire to make Maggie his.

Following his heart might get him the girl…but it could also mean sacrificing the family he’s held together for years.

Excerpt:

They sat in silence until he reached Maggie’s house. Her grip on his arm and the warmth of her right there next to him only made the longings that had begun earlier in the evening stronger.

“Come in for a drink?” she asked.

Clay didn’t even bother to offer any of that “it’s late” bullshit. He wanted to come in so bad he could taste it.

Still, he held back as he led her to the house. He removed her coat without pressing his lips to that spot on the back of her neck he’d been longing to kiss all night. He managed to keep from catching hold of her hand and jerking her into his arms so he could ravish her lips.

Instead, he followed her into the living room, surprised when she pulled out whiskey tumblers and poured them each two fingers neat of Cameron’s favourite whiskey. The bottle he’d given his friend for his birthday back in the fall.

Thirty years old was far too young to die.

Maggie pressed a glass into his hand. Her eyes were moist, but she smiled and raised her drink in the air. “To a brighter future.”

He touched his glass to hers with a gentle clink, then they both drank. The golden liquid burned a fiery path down Clay’s throat. Warmth spread to his chest and gut as they put the glasses aside.

Nothing between them but a foot of air.

Her eyes were mesmerizing. Her tongue darted over her lips as she licked away the last of the liquor. Her breathing accelerated, her chest moving like seduction under that damn dress that showed off her figure to perfection.

She lifted a hand and laid it over his chest, and there was no way to deny the solid thumping she must’ve felt against her palm.

“What are we doing?” he whispered. He had to be certain.

“Living.”

God. He laid a hand over hers, pinning her in place. With his other hand, he slid his fingers past her cheek, stroking his thumb over her cheekbone. Soft skin under his touch, bright eyes staring into his as her lips opened partway, an invitation he craved to accept. “Are you sure?”

She nuzzled against his palm, her eyes closing as she moved against him. “I want this. I want you.”

Any hesitation he might have had washed away in that moment. The sheer utter longing in her tone told him all he needed. He slipped his hand around the back of her neck, fingers nestled into her hair as he cupped her head and tilted it enough that he could lean forward and brush his lips over hers.

A brief, gentle touch. Just enough to take a first taste.

His entire body had gone hard, every muscle primed as she moved against him like she had on the dance floor. But now he could give in to the cravings that he had—and he intended to. One exquisite moment at a time.

Like being given keys to a vintage wine cellar, he didn’t want to rush and miss a single moment of the experience.

He spread his fingers on her lower back and brought their bodies even closer as he went in for another kiss. This one more intense, asking for more, slipping his tongue against her lips until she opened to him and let him in.

His previous fantasies had nothing on the real thing. As Maggie stirred against him, warm breath mixing with his and womanly curves pressed against his hardness, he was glad. It was a brand-new experience. It was enough to blow his mind.

He moved them backward, tempted to rush ahead, ripping away that dress so he could strip her naked. He wanted to be buried inside her so badly.

But no matter how much she said she wanted this, he needed to make sure. He paused when his calves hit the couch, breaking the distance between them so he could look into her eyes and make sure she was still fully on board.

Her lips were swollen from his kisses, wet with moisture. Her pupils were wide, and she stared back, panting heavily.

“God, I could eat you up just in one bite,” he breathed. He cupped her face in his hands, kissing her again in spite of his intentions to slow down.

She jerked opened his dress jacket and shoved it from his shoulders. He let go of her so he could toss it aside.

Maggie caught him by surprise and planted a hand on his chest, pushing him onto the couch before lifting the edge of her skirt so she could straddle his thighs and rest in his lap. “Don’t mind me. I have this thing I’ve wanted to do for a while. It requires undressing you.”

Clay had no objections. “I plan to return the favour.”

She loosened his tie, her eyes serious as she worked the silk from around his neck. She pulled it free then dropped it on top of his jacket. He wasn’t sure what to watch—her face as she worked on the buttons of his dress shirt, or his hands as he eased them up her bare thighs under the raised portion of her dress.

“I like your hands on me,” she admitted with a purr of pleasure.

“I’m glad, because I plan to have them there for a good long time.”

He caught her licking her lips again, and he skimmed his hands up the outside of her dress, pulling her forward as he stole in for another kiss. His shirt hung open, and the warm swells of her breasts pressed against him through her dress.

It wasn’t enough. He wanted bare skin to bare skin, but he didn’t want to miss taking one step at a time.

And kissing her—

Fuck, he could do that all night.

ONE SEXY RIDE Feature

We’re closing in on the final book in the Thompson & Sons series, and to make sure you’re caught up, we’re going to go through the books that lead up to the new story. A WILD RIDE can be read alone, but it’s better for being a part of the whole!
This week: ONE SEXY RIDE
Arend, Vivian- One Sexy Ride (final)

His goal is to stand firm

Len Thompson only wants one woman—his little sister’s best friend. But no matter how much he craves Janey Watson, keeping a physical barrier between them is his only choice, and if he can’t have her, he refuses to have anyone. When Janey announces she’s leaving town, all bets are off. Len decides it’s time to take—and give—everything he’s been holding back while he still has the chance.

Her gift is rocking his world

Janey’s been crushing on Len for years, but he’s never seemed interested in her. Until now. She’s not sure what triggered his change of heart, but, hell yeah, she’ll accept it. All of it. Every kiss, every touch, every mind-blowing orgasm. Working to meet the deadline for her move is not nearly as interesting as enjoying steamy escapades with the sexy mechanic she’s always desired.

Only it’s a relationship built on sand, and Len must finally choose—face his past or let their future crumble.

EXCERPT:

He’d expected a bit of an attitude, but the sheer flaming belligerence flashing in her eyes was a surprise.

Janey stomped across the concrete floor of the garage, jerking to a halt only inches away from him as she stuck a finger in his face. “You’ve got a shit-ton of explaining to do.”

“How’re you feeling this morning?” Len folded his arms across his chest, attempting to create a barrier between him and the glaring young woman.

“How the hell am I supposed to feel the night after all sorts of things happened I can’t remember? I mean, thank you for taking care of me after that jackass slipped me the drugs—I’m grateful, I really am. Katy told me you looked after me, but there’s a whole lot she didn’t know about. Am I right?”

She wasn’t beating around the bush. “You were a bit of a handful.”

“A handful?” Her volume increased, and she planted both fists on her hips. She was much smaller than him, but right then she seemed a towering bundle of fury. “What exactly did I do that made this seem like a good idea?”

She whipped off her T-shirt, and Len’s heart leapt into his throat. “Jeez, Janey, put your clothes on.”

She tucked the hand holding the shirt behind her back, pointing her free fingers like a gun at the printed words on her abdomen.

At least this time she was wearing a bra, which was a whole lot more than she’d had on the last time he had gotten up close and personal with the bold black marks decorating her skin.

“Len Thompson, you tell me right now why your signature is on my belly. Along with what looks like my handwriting saying Len + Janey 4ever.”

A distant rumble of voices grew louder, and Len glanced over his shoulder to see the staff room door opening. It was bad enough to have to deal with this, but he couldn’t allow anyone to see Janey half-naked in the middle of the family garage.

He turned back and braced himself. “I’ll explain everything, but not here.”

She shook her head. “I’m not going anywhere without some answers.”

Len gave up trying to convince her. Simply leaned over and planted his shoulder against her stomach, grabbed hold of her legs and picked her up. She squawked in dismay, but he ignored her complaining, heading for the exit at a rapid clip. He had them outside and tucked in next to the propane shed in no time, out of sight from anyone who might wander into the garage yard.

“Put me down this instant, you big lughead.” Janey punctuated her complaints by smacking her fists into his back.

“We’re not discussing anything in front of my family.” Len lowered her to the ground, careful she had her balance before letting go. He snatched her T-shirt from her hand and thrust it forward.

“Put your clothes on.”

Janey folded her arms over her chest, her chin rising defiantly. “Why is your signature on my body?”

“Because it was the only way to get you to stop…” Len paused, not because he wasn’t going to tell her the truth, but because there had to be a better way to say this than simply blurting it out.

In front of him, her defiance lessened and her bluster faded. “Damn, what the hell did I try to do to you?”

He couldn’t stop the smile that twitched his lips. “Not much more than anything you’ve tried before.”

“Shit.” Janey sighed, jerking her shirt over her head. “So. You got to take care of me while I was high, and I basically offered myself to you. Again.”

“It wasn’t all about sex,” Len reassured her. “You ran the gambit. You asked for a hug at one point, and when I gave you one, you started crying.”

She frowned, leaning back on the corrugated metal of the shed wall. “Crying?”

“You said I would never hug you unless you were dying. Then we had a long conversation about how you were not dying, and then you got really fascinated with your hands. Which somehow led into a conversation about how your mom would kill you if you ever handed in notes where your handwriting was that crooked.”

“Great.” She rolled her eyes. “Anything else I should know about?”

Nope. Not telling her, not even if she insisted. Some things he couldn’t say out loud without fucking dying all over. “Not really.”

She tugged at the bottom of her shirt, exposing a little of the sharpie markings on her belly. One brow shot up again, but she didn’t say anything. Just waited, expectantly.

Fine. It seemed this was going to happen, and Len couldn’t even feel remorseful about it. “After you’d had a shower—because you insisted you were being consumed by a million, trillion ants, you got a little…affectionate.”

Janey’s head banged on the shed wall. She closed her eyes and cursed softly. “Fab. What did I do? Try to give you a hickey?”

She honestly looked so upset by the whole situation Len didn’t have the heart to tell her all the details. Like how he’d had to go in the shower with her because he was afraid she wouldn’t stay vertical. And no way would he show her the scratch marks she’d left on his back. “Don’t worry. I wasn’t offended.”

“But for some reason I decided to do a semipermanent tattoo, and get you to autograph it.”

“You were rather insistent.”

She shook her head, regaining her feet as she moved away from the wall. “Well, thanks again for taking care of me. And sorry I was a pain in the ass.”

She tried to walk around him, but Len shot out his hand and caught her by the elbow. “I’ll come by your place around six.”

Janey’s brows shot skyward. “Hello?”

“For our first date. We can hit the diner for supper.” Maybe last night he’d had his arm twisted, but now that he’d wrapped his head around the situation, being together with her was all he could think about.

Being with her was all he’d ever wanted, really.

“Oh, for fuck’s sake.” Janey shook her arm as if her feeble wiggle could make him let go. “I was out of it, and you pacified me. I get it. Don’t jerk my chain.”

“I’m not joking.” Len shifted forward, backing her toward the shed with his body. “Yes, you were high. But you said a couple things while you were flying that made a lot of sense.”

He had her trapped in position. His forearms rested on the shed, leaning in close enough she had to tilt her head to look at him.

“You’re serious? You want to take me on a date?”

Len stroked the back of his forefinger up her arm. Teasing gently over the edge of her T-shirt until he could draw his fingers along her collarbone. She was so damn soft. “That’s what the writing on your belly says. That you and I are going out. I signed it, and trust me, no matter how wild you were talking, if I hadn’t wanted to, I wouldn’t have agreed.”

Janey shivered under his touch. He rested his hand on her shoulder and was slowly brushing his thumb back and forth along the edge of her neckline. “This is insane, Len. I’ve tried to get you to go out with me for years. I have done the stupidest things—”

“You don’t have to bring them up.”

She had the cutest little frown creasing her forehead. “But now, after all that time, you and I are dating?”

“Yes.”

She snorted. “Bullshit.”

“Why? Don’t you want to go out with me anymore?” He’d be the one calling bullshit if she said no.

She opened and closed her mouth a few times, seriously struggling to respond. Janey finally shrugged and pulled a face. “It doesn’t seem like this is real. Maybe I’m still high.” Her gaze narrowed. “Are you sure you’re not pulling a fast one on me?”

“Nope.” He kept touching her, unable to stop. It was as if now that he’d given himself permission, holding back any longer was impossible.

Her eyes grew wider as he slipped his hand behind her head and cradled her carefully. Temptation lured him forward, calling him to lean down and take her lips for the first time, right there and then.

His body was primed for anything, and everything. Far too hard from simply standing this close—he was going to have a hell of a time surviving when he actually touched her.

Her lashes fluttered, and she stopped fighting. Instead, she planted her palms against his chest, the warmth shooting a thrill through his system. “For real? Because I swear, if I find out you’re shitting me, I will peel you like a grape.”

Len laughed, the sound coming out shaky as Janey dragged her nails down his chest. “I would like to see you try, but no. I’m serious.” He covered her hands with his, mesmerized again by their softness. “This is real, you and me.”

Her tongue darted out over her bottom lip, and another shot of fire raced up his spine. Yet somehow, Len pulled away. Setting her free and placing some distance between them in spite of the disappointment on her face.

He knew the sensation. “I’ll see you at six.”

And he turned, and walked away.

ROCKY RIDE Feature

We’re closing in on the final book in the Thompson & Sons series, and to make sure you’re caught up, we’re going to go through the books that lead up to the new story. A WILD RIDE can be read alone, but it’s better for being a part of the whole!

Arend, Vivian- Rocky Ride (final)

He’s hotter than hot

Bad boy Mitch Thompson finally convinced straight-laced Constable Anna Coleman to take him for a ride. It only took a few—okay, a lot of speeding tickets and some smooth talking—but now that Anna’s loosened off her stiff RCMP uniform, it’s not nearly enough for Mitch. Their secret escapades are steamy and mind-blowing, but he wants more than her body—he wants her heart.

She’s afraid of getting burned

Anna doesn’t know how far she can safely go before she crosses the line. Sinfully sexy Mitch may have lured her wild side out to play, but giving in to more and more illicit desires could endanger her very civilized career on the police force. There has to be a point between yearning and obsession. Or is there?

Will giving in mean giving up everything she’s worked for, or will they gain everything they’ve ever wanted?

Excerpt:

Mitch skimmed his fingers over her neck then sank them into her hair. “Do you trust me?” he asked, tugging lightly to lift her face toward him.

There was no other answer she could give. “I wouldn’t have started this if I didn’t.”

That gorgeous square-cut jaw with the heavy stubble moved closer, until he was brushing her cheek with his. Every word became a sensual tease. “Give it a try, Constable. Walk on the wild side with me. We’ll go as slow as you feel comfortable, but you know I’m not the big bad wolf everyone makes me out to be.”

“You still have enormous teeth,” she teased, involuntarily trying to shift away as he nibbled on her neck. “Mitch. How could this possibly work between us? I’m a cop.”

“And I’m a decent, upright citizen living in your community,” he insisted. “Who drives a little fast at times.”

She shivered under his touch. The temptation was there, honesty made her admit that. For all his tattoos and fast bike and beefed-up truck—Mitch had never been proven connected with anything more scandalous than a speeding ticket.

Tickets she’d given him while he’d flirted unmercifully until she agreed to meet with him.

And now? Was she really going to get involved even more? What would her family say? What would—

Her job.

Fear rose like a barricade, and she tangled her fingers in his hair, tugging him away to stop him from tormenting her body. “I don’t want to do anything to risk my position, Mitch. That’s all on me—on the expectations the organization has for their officers.”

“Not going to mess with your career, babe. I swear.”

Anna leaned her head on his chest and fought to draw strength from him. She let out an aggravated growl. “How can I want to say yes so badly, yet want to run out the door at the same time?”

He held her close, strong fingers rubbing over her back. “Tell me what you want, and I’ll do what I can to make it happen,” he promised. “Take a chance, Anna. Take a step into the unknown and see how it feels.”

She glanced at his list. The page lay face-up on the coffee table by their legs. Dancing at Traders. A movie at the theater. A starlight walk. Some of the things he’d written down weren’t too frightening to imagine. “You’ll go at my speed?”

He laughed softly. “You’re as heavy on the gas as I am. I promise to go slower than your speed if we have to.”

Temptation hung before her. All she had to do was reach out and take it. “What are we going to do? One item off your list, one item off mine? Mine are a hell of a lot…”

“Filthier than mine? Oh, babe, I noticed.” Mitch lifted her chin. “I’m looking forward to making every one of them come true.”

Anna hesitated then gave in and took what she wanted. “Okay. We can try it, see how things work. What’s the first thing on your list, then? And remember you promised me crazy excitement.”

His dark eyes snapped with enthusiasm as a satisfied smile stretched across his face. “Tonight? We’re going dirt biking.”
