One Week of Wolves- Bianca D'Arc

wolfweek

Wow, what a week it's been, not only here on the blog, but in real life. My feet are tired, b=my brain is buzzing and my cheeks are tired from smiling so much–because I'm having such a great time at RWA.

So I'm going to turn it over right away to a sweet friend and awesome writer, who makes me warm inside with her support and enthusiasm. Having people like Bianca influence and be there for me over the past year…so wonderful.

~~~
Hi there! I'm Bianca D'Arc and I'm honored to be among those asked to participate in this awesome event. Our little Viv is all grown up and has a great new book out to prove it! Congrats, Viv!!! I really like this “One Week of Wolves” theme and having had my own dealings with sexy wolf shifters inside my books, I can honestly say readers are in for a treat. Viv writes great wolves!
Now it's time for a confession. When I wrote LORDS OF THE WERE, my first werewolf book, it was more or less a self-imposed challenge. There were already a ton of vampire books out there, but not too many werewolf books. I wanted to write a paranormal but didn't want to write vamps at that time, so I chose the werewolves as a sort of challenge to myself. For a long time, I referred to the book simply as my “crazy werewolf book.” I didn't think readers would really be interested in it – certainly not as much as they have been. To date, LORDS OF THE WERE is, by far, my best selling book. That “crazy werewolf book” surprised the hell out of me and continues to do so as I write more in that world.
As I wrote it, I fell in love with the adventurous world it is set in. It's our present day Earth, only slightly askew – where werecreatures of all kinds exist in secret from we mere mortals. I love their clandestine society where magic exists and the Earth Mother is the deity of choice. As my readers know, I really like to mix it up, and every once in a while I introduce some fey magic into the story. But these aren't Tinkerbell-like fairies. My fey are more like Tolkein's elves – warriors of light and intense magic inhabiting a realm just Underhill from our own, coming out to meddle in our world every once in while.
Eventually I did write some vampire stories and have since blended the two series into one paranormal world where vamps, weres, fey and mages all live in secret among us. They have their own societies with their own laws. And the fight between good and evil is as real as it gets. To date, there are three novels set in this world (LORDS OF THE WERE, INFERNO, and SWEETER THAN WINE) and four novellas (ONE & ONLY, RARE VINTAGE, PHANTOM DESIRES, and FOREVER VALENTINE). I do plan to write more of these tales as soon as I get a chance.
And though I know we're talking wolves here today, I also want to say a word for the cats. Or cat shifters, to be more precise. I started a series of cat shifter stories with a book called CAT'S CRADLE and have two more planned for that series. Big cats make wonderfully sexy shifters. All that feline grace and cunning… It makes me want to purrrrrrrrrr. 😉
I also write aliens and dragons, of course, and my latest work is a series of military paranormal romances where the bad guys are zombies and mad scientists. If you like paranormal and military heroes, check out ONCE BITTEN, TWICE DEAD published by Kensington Brava. Once I finish writing the last of that five book series – which I'm working on right now – I'll be back to working on my other paranormal world and an intriguing half-wolf/half-fey character I recently dreamt up. He's very powerful and super sexy. I think he and I are going to have a lot of fun together! 😉
In the meantime, my best wishes go to Viv for much success on her new release. I'm so happy for her! I remember well how it felt to hold that first print book in my hand. It's kind of surreal even now to go into a bookstore and actually see my books on the shelves. Here's to many, many more successful releases!
Thank you, Bianca! To enter to win one of Bianca's books, please leave a note about the shifter type you'd NEVER like to see.
Yeah, I know, weird question. Just making sure I don't write them down the road…. 😉
I like almost any kind of shifter story but the ones I would never like to see would be a spider, lizard or a scorpion to me there’s no way to write a story where any of these would be sexy. I’m not sure if I would even try to read a story with any of them in it.
Don’t enter me since I own all Bianca’a books and love them.
My first thought was a reptile (snake), but spiders would be a very close second.
Oh, a series with zombies?! I’ll have to check that out.
As for the shifter I’d never want to see……… a were-mosquito, That would really freak me out.
Any kind of snake, spider, or bug. Unless maybe the person was a villian, I just can’t see myself liking any kind of creepy crawly thing as a shifter. *shudder*
I would never like to see a kangaroo shifter. There’s nothing sexy about kangaroos.
Great list of creepy crawlies so far. Another one I wouldn’t want to see is a were-bee, fly or worm.
It would be weird reading about a spider shifter… also I do not see anything interesting about a hippo shifter either…
spiders! I have a morbid dread of spiders.
Other than that I wouldn’t like to see any cutsey shapeshifters of the mouse/hamster/guinea pig vartiety – I don’t think they can pull of that Alpha male thing that the big cats and wolves do 😀
Could not do a were-spider. But as i see weres as strong and predators I probably could not envision a sexy were-armadillo either.
Like Indiana Jones says….Snakes…I hate snakes. Nothing sexy about them, so no shifters in that category for me.
Anything involving a were-insect of any kind would just be wrong on every level, unless the character was a villain. Even then I’d probably be too creeped out to read it.
I’d say elephant. That must hurt like a b*tch to shift to such a large animal 🙂
I agree with those citing insects and small non-predator species. Do not see much call for a were-bunny.
I’d hate to see a shifter story about insects, rodents, or sharks. I don’t like any of them. Insects are gross, rodents freak me out, and I’m afraid of sharks (think I watched jaws too many times as a kid).
I’m gonna have to disagree about a were-rodent. I love rodents and think that an Alpha Male could shift into a Rat or Hamster and still be sexy. Especially if the rodent was huge! If you can’t imagine a Hamster being intimidating…think of a 6 foot tall hamster or rat…they are shifters, they should be able to shift smaller or larger depending on what they are needing.
I once read a story where a guy was a snake shifter and I thought it was cool, I cannot for the life of me remember what the name of the book was.
But I wouldn’t want to see a Bee-shifter…I don’t like bee’s.
But I think a good writer could make just about any shifter, sexy. If done right.
