Consider the future

We’ve crossed over into a new decade. I’ve crossed over into a new career/ hobby that makes me excited to get up every morning. My goals for 2010 are tinged in part by what I’ve learned over the past year, and coloured with the excitement of what I still want to learn.

The year is going to start out very busy. I have eight new books on the coming soon page that should all release before July 1st. I have two print books, one August and one December. So my first goal has to do with keeping in balance. Even while I dive into edits and cover art forms and working with new editors and doing galleys for the first time… I still want to write new books. So I’m going to attempt to set up a schedule where I do the ‘work’ of the job during certain hours, and the ‘play’ of the job during others. This may not seem like a large goal, but to me–Miss ‘fly by the seat of my pants’ and ‘subject to bursts of enthusiasm’–it’s huge!

Because when it comes down to it, I still feel like writing is playing. And that’s the way it should be.

Second goal- I have some series I’ve begun that I’m longing to know what happens next. I really don’t know until I write the book, so I’m as eager as the readers to move to the next one. The second merfolk are coming along nicely again. Then it’s TJ’s turn, and I really want to do a good job with his story. So many people are looking forward to it, I’d hate to disappoint. Book 3 in the cowboys. A second book in the space trilogy. There are others, but I want to see what calls the loudest before I commit to writing, because then the books fly much faster.

I’m not going to be able to attend the Lori Foster event this year, but really would like to get to one conference. Still trying to decide which one, but it’s on the list ‘to-do’

My final big writing goal? To write a 90K story. I’ve done it in Young Adult, but in romance my current longest project is 52K. This would be another step in improving my skills and striving to get the best stories out to my readers. Paranormal? Contemporary? Still not sure. There’s the trickle of an idea simmering in the back of my brain, but I’ll just leave it at that for now.

Lastly–to continue to enjoy every minute of the adventure. To give back when I can, to play with readers at Heat Wave, to laugh with my friends from around the world at International Heat.

Because that’s why I’m really doing this. Writing has opened up a whole new world to me, and I’m so grateful. Thank you for being a part of it with me.

1.  Work a schedule
2.  Next in series, including merfolk, wolfies and cowboys
3.  Attend at least one conference
4. Write a big book
5. Play, laugh, love.
